Phahlane's legal action backfired on him - Paul O’Sullivan

Forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan says the weight of evidence against Lieutenant-General Khomotso Phahlane proves he has a case to answer.

The acting national police commissioner has been removed from the position and has been replaced by Lesetja Mothiba, until a permanent appointment is made.

Phahlane had been involved in an ongoing dispute with the Independent Investigative Police Directorate led by Robert McBride, after it appeared he had conducted several suspicious deals involving cash.

I kind of always expected it.

Paul O'Sullivan, forensic investigator

The minister did the right thing, I think the weight of evidence that has come out in the court papers. I knew already in February last year that he had a case to answer but the problem was Ipid had been neutralised. The head of Ipid was on suspension and all the key investigative staff of Ipid had been suspended or dismissed.

Paul O'Sullivan, forensic investigator

I think the evidence that came out as a result of Phahlane's own misguided legal advice to launch an application against myself, Ipid and my lawyer backfired on him because it forced us to show to the court the weight of evidence against him.
