Lesotho gears up for third election in five years

Lesotho will hold its general election on Saturday, for the third time in five years. This, after a protracted period of volatility in the country.

Parliament was dissolved in March when Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili lost a vote of no confidence leading to the dismantling his seven-party coalition government within two years of its formation.

He will run against his predecessor, Thomas Thabane, who came to power in 2012 but fled to South Africa after a failed coup attempt in 2014.

The event led to early elections in 2015, followed by eminent succession and power battles. There are predictions the event will end in another fractious coalition government.

EWN correspondent JJ Cornish has more.

Mosisili's seven party coalition fell apart, would he be capable of putting something together again to keep Thabane out, Thabane sounding very confident.

The voting itself should go well, South Africa looking on with enormous trepidation.
