How healthy is your breakfast?

Over the years nutritionists have told us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and dietician Lauren Moore seem to agree.

She says if people don't have their breakfast, blood sugar may potentially drop and later in the day have a spike in their appetite.

The purpose of breakfast is to stabilize our blood sugar...

Lauren Moore, Dietician

Moore says people sometimes assume that cereals are a healthier option. She says they are just convinient because they are quick and easy to make.

The only problem with cereals is the added sugar. A lot of time they are misleading messages on the packaging...which leads people in believing they are making good choices.

Lauren Moore, Dietician

The trick is always look at the ingredients.

Lauren Moore, Dietician

Moore says people should look for a fair amount of carbohydrates and fibre in their cereal because the carbs will stabilize the blood sugar.

She recommends oats and eggs as a healthier choice for breakfast. Research has found that people who eat eggs for breakfast end up eating less calories for the rest of the day, says Moore.

Specifically for people who are trying to lose weight or live healthier, eggs are a fantastic option.
