Bongmusa Mthembu won the 2017 edition of the famous Comrades Marathon. This was Mthembu's second win. He won the first won the race in 2014 and clinched the third position in 2016.
Mthembu ran and finished Sunday's race before 11am, completing the challenging 86.73-kilometre race from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in a time of 5 hours, 35 minutes and 34 seconds.

Speaking to Redi Tlhabi, host of the Afternoon Drive, Mthembu says the race was challenging from the start to the finish. He says this particular race was emotional as he was met by son and family at the finish line.

Mthembu says part of his winning formula was focusing on the race and says he couldn't have done it without support from his coach, family and friends.
