The local government's James-Brent Styan has warned that this is possibly the worst storm expected to hit the province in nearly 30 years.

We want people to be very serious about what is coming over the next few days, if possible stay at home. Take care outside, it is going to be very cold and the wind is going to be very strong

We have activated the disaster management centre, that will be activated from 10 o'clock tonight. We have contacted the South Africa Airforce, they are on standby in the event of an emergency across the province. The other emergency rescue units and departments are all on high alert.

He says informal settlements have been identified as high risk areas and will be prioritised.

There will definitely be people looking out for those areas, they are a top priority on our list. The emergency number which is toll free, 112 can be called in the event of any flooding emergency. The three areas at most risk are the Overberg region, the West Coast and of course the Peninsula.
