Xolani Gwala says consumers should not have to bear the brunt of a proposed electricity tariff hike until Eskom has exhausted every plausible source of income.
A Business Day report says South African consumers could face a 20% electricity hike, according to a confidential draft application.
Gwala says Eskom should rather recover money wasted on certain business deals.
In an environment where we get reports or allegations of certain companies invoicing Eskom for doing absolutely no work, what we should be saying to Eskom is fine, come back to us ask for whatever you need but first recoup that money.— Xolani Gwala, 702 Breakfast anchor
Eskom can't be allowed to abuse us as consumers, demanding these shockingly high electricity tariffs, we must force them to make sure they clean up their house, that the money they have is used efficiently and effectively before they come back to us begging for more money.— Xolani Gwala, 702 Breakfast anchor
