When she realised that her trusty Toyota Conquest (fondly named Tracy) would be 20 years old this year and she would be 80, there was clearly no better time to fulfill her dream.

So together with 100 years of life’s experiences, she and her car plan to set off on the adventure of a lifetime.

People look at her in horror when she tells them she’s venturing forth across Africa in a 1997, 1600 Toyota Conquest with close to 400 000 kms on the clock.

You can’t do this for nothing because it’s a waste of time, no matter how much effort you have. You have to take a charity.

She says who else would she choose as her partner in crime, but her beloved car - because for a quarter of her life, Tracy has been her trusty stead.

Albu says windows wound down, music playing, seatbelt clipped in, she could always roar off into the sunset when she needed to.

I took a charity called Shine and it is an early learning for children, but not just learning how to read. It teaches them what the meaning of the word. You can read but you don’t know what you are reading and this will teach children what they are reading means.
