At least eight deaths have been recorded as a result of the Cape Town storm. Four people dies in Kraaiforntein apparently after lightning struck an electirticty pole and it fell on their home. At the same time a man was killed when his shack collapsed on him in Lavender Hill - and a further three people have been reported dead as a result of a massive fire near Knysna, being driven by strong berg winds as a result of the #CapeStorm system.
Mandy Thomas, spokesperson, Cape Town disaster Risk Management says they are looking to close roads along the coastline to protect people from the storms surge.
Thomas adds that the community of Imizamo Yethu have had to be housed because of discomfort and not flooding. Thomas urges residents to stay indoors if possible. For life threatening emergencies, residents are requested to call 021 480 7700 and 107 from a landline.
