Phemelo Motene chats to creative parenting expert, Nikki Bush about the changing world of work and our children.

Weekend Breakfast host, Phemelo Motene and creative parenting expert, Nikki Bush spoke about how the world of work is changing as well as some of the rising new industries where our children will find jobs.

Bush tells Motene that the world is definitely moving into a different area. She adds that today's skills, that are going to prepare our children for the future might be different from those of their parents.

What you study in your twenties may not be sufficient for an eighty year career.

Bush goes on to say that many children should be equipping themselves with programming and coding skills in their early years. She says this is because we're increasingly going to have lots of machines in the workplace.

Informatics is going to be a very big field says Bush.

Robotics in schools is roughly in ten percent of private schools and two percent of all schools. We need to be introducing it in a bigger way.

Bush says when children start playing with things like robotics, they will be inspired to be lifelong learners, because they will begin seeing their thinking becoming visible. She says that's where children will become engaged in their learning.
