"DA understands free speech, non-racialism and colonialism differently"

The Democratic Alliance (DA) and Western Cape have, in the last few days, experienced their own political storm following the suspension of Western Cape Premier from party activities.

CapeTalk's Weekend Breakfast host, Africa Melane talked to Siya Khumalo, author, political and social commentator about Western Cape Premier, Helen Zille's fate in the party.

Khumalo says Zille resigning would only solve the party's short term problems. He further explains that Zille is only a symptom of the DA's internal problems.

They understand, free speech, non racialism and the legacy of colonialism differently.

They formulated a lot of those ideas within a very white bubble.

Khumalo adds that until there is uniformity within the DA, more and more leaders will continue making similar or controversial utterances similar to those of their former leader, Zille. He goes on to say that the DA has between now and the next general election in 2019 to position itself as a desired alternative and opposition party and one that isn't marred with controversies.
