Lunice Johnston, first cousin of Tony Johnston, described him and his wife Madre as a happy and loving couple.
Tony and Madre Johnston as well as their three-year old son Michael died in the raging forest fires that engulfed Knysna on Wednesday. The couple died while fleeing for safety from their Sedgefield small-holding.
According to Johnston, the two loved nature which is the reason they chose to stay in a small-holding in the forest.
They were a loving couple that lived every moment and loved the outdoor and little Michael was the same. He loved fishing...— Lunice Johnston, Johnston family spokesperson
Both Tonny and Madre were qualified civil engineers, says Johnston. She says the family was due to celebrate little Michael's birthday when they were caught off guard by the raging fire that killed them.
Madre was eight months pregnant and was working from home at the time, says Johnston.
