Gupta lieutenant Salim Essa's old associate was given Eskom top job

More revelations about the relationship between the Gupta family and people who were running Eskom have been published.

The Daily Maverick and amabBhungane are reporting that the #Guptaleaks show that the family were sent the CV of Collin Matjil just before he was appointed acting CEO of Eskom in 2014.

According to the documents, on 22 March 2014, Gupta associate Salim Essa circulated Matjila’s CV via mail to Gupta brother Rajesh, and his nephew Srikant Singhala, son of Atul Gupta.

After Matjila was appointed, Gupta-owned TNA Media scored lucrative deals with the power utility.

In October 2014, amaBhungane reported that “Matjila allegedly disregarded internal legal advice and approved a budget-busting R43-million New Age business breakfasts sponsorship”.

Eyewitness News reporter Gia Nicolaides has more on this story.

Its emerged that Gupta associate Salim Essa circulated Matjila’s CV via mail to Gupta brother Rajesh, and his nephew, as well as Dudzane Zuma, shortly before Majila was appointed Eskom CEO in 2014.

Once they had all apparently seen the CV and approved it, he was then appointed to the position.

These business breakfasts featured prominent political figures, and around the same time as the business breakfast deal was being hammered out Eskom also entered into a new contract for the bulk buying of copies of the New Age newspaper, all of this happening at a time when Eskom couldn't afford it.
