Fatal stabbing of grade 8 pupil highlights concerns of violence in Kraaifontein

14 June 2017 4:11 PM

It is reported that the 16-year-old victim in Cape Town was taken to a nearby hospital and died shortly thereafter.

On Tuesday in Cape Town, a grade 8 learner was stabbed to death by a fellow pupil at a Kraaifontein high school in what’s believed to be a gang-related incident.

Kraaifontein Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson Sila Mawethu says he received information of the fatal incident through the police.

The pupil who stabbed the other young boy was supposed to appear in court today.

Mawethu tells CapeTalk's John Maytham that such incidents are unfortunately common in his community especially amongst teenage boys.

Community programmes are underway to address issues of gang violence, crime and learners dropping out of school, he adds.

Mawethu goes on to say that some schools are reluctant to collaborate with the Kraaifontein Community Police Forum to find a way of putting an end to the violence and other social ills grappling the community.
