Struggling former athletics champ has cancer, says South Africa has failed him

Thulani Sibisi won the Two Oceans Marathon many years ago and also headed up the long-distance coaching staff for Team South Africa at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics.

These Olympic Games were significant for South Africa as it was the first time participating since the fall of Apartheid.

He had planned to catch a train to participate in the Two Oceans in 1986, but Johan Rupert sponsored his plane ticket.

Thulani called into The Redi Tlhabi Show and described how he is in stage 3 of prostate cancer. Despite his ill health he plans to walk 15km to raise funds for The Prostate Cancer Foundation.

My concern is listening to the MEC for Health spinning all the questions for you.

He says she did not answer any of the questions put to her.

He describes how he has been turned out of his own home. He says he has all the papers to prove ownership but is not able to get any help.

Redi promised to investigate his plight.

International sports people are helping pay for his medical treatment he says, and not one single South African is assisting him.

Take a listen to his heartbreaking story:
