Concessions made for Unisa students affected by Joburg taxi strike

The University of South Africa (Unisa) has put contingency plans in place for Gauteng students who may be unable to reach their examination venues due to the taxi strike.

Taxi drivers have blocked the N1 highway in both directions at the Allandale off-ramp in Midrand.

The protest has caused major traffic delays on the N12 East, the Golden Highway and Nirvana near Lenasia.

Thousands of commuters in Johannesburg, Midrand and Tshwane.

Unisa students who are unable to write their examinations due to the strike have been asked to apply for a deferred examination through the official channels, the university has said.

At the same time, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says the department will also accommodate scholars who could not attend school or write exam assessments.

He says exam dates will be rescheduled to avoid compromising learner safety.
