Bathabile Dlamini to be investigated for personal liability in Sassa debacle

EWN reporter, Gia Nicolaides says the Constitutional Court has ordered an investigation into Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini's personal liability over the social grants matter.

The court stated that it could not establish whether Dlamini should be held personally liable for costs incurred in the South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) payment debacle without proper investigation.

It previously criticised Dlamini for not playing any role in ensuring that her department was able to administer social grants and stop using cash paymaster services.

The court said it cannot make an order adverse to the minister based on allegations that are untested in a situation where she had not an opportunity to challenge it.

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter

The court has given the entire matter back to the parties involved and we will be back in court in two weeks time to see how the matter proceeds further.
