Santaco claims Joburg taxi blockade fueled by rogue members

The South African National Taxi Association (Santaco) says it will investigate those members responsible for orchestrating a taxi blockade on Joburg highways.

Taxi drivers took to the highways on Thursday morning causing huge backlogs that prevented thousands of commuters from getting to work.

Drivers affiliated to Santaco embarked on a strike over high vehicle finances, but have since called it off, after an agreement was reached with SA Taxi Finance Holdings.

The department has urged taxi drivers to clear the roads as a matter of urgency after several major routes were barricaded with trucks and taxis.

Meanwhile, the COO of Santaco's business arm Taxi Choice, Thulani Qwabe has denied claims that their strike action was not approved by authorities.

Qwabe says they will investigate who was responsible for orchestrating the blockade and hold them accountable.

We walk away with a lot of victories, but a lot of lessons as well.
