Communications Minister to meet with Treasury over SABC cash crisis

Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo says she will this week meet with Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba to discuss how Treasury can help intervene in the SABC's cash crisis.

She says the meeting will explore the various options, including the potential for a financial bailout.

According to Dlodlo, the cash-strapped public broadcaster has been struggling to pay its employees.

Dlodlo says the department is working on tackling misappropriation of money, negligence, mismanagement and gross corruption at the SABC.

The minister maintains that investigations must be instituted where there are allegations of wrongdoing at the public broadcaster.

However, she says she cannot provide details about the preliminary investigation by the SIU and has not yet met with Public Protector's office.

She spoke about how she plans to restore a credible management and work ethic at the public broadcaster, following the dismissal of former COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
