Court triumph a win for SA's child victims, says 'Frankel 8' applicant

One of the applicants who brought the case against the late philanthropist stock broker Sidney Frankel says she is grateful and humbled by the court victory.

Nicole Levingstein is among a group of eight people who accused Frankel of sexually abusing them decades ago.

Frankel died earlier this year but group of women went to court to change the law of prescription around sexual assault.

The High Court has ruled that the 20-year prescription bar on sexual offences will be lifted and Levingstein explains that it will help other sexual abuse survivors in their fight for justice.

It's an incredible victory, not just for myself, but for all the plaintiffs and I think for all of South Africa.

We will always have this victory... We initially felt robbed, but this is something that's made up for all of that.

Levingstein says she is glad that she came forward to be a part of the so-called Frankel eight, saying the milestone has made the journey all worth it.

The court has ordered that the law be sent to Parliament for a period of 18 months to be amended.

She reflected on the stressful experience and how the legal action has helped raise awareness about sexual offences and child abuse.
