The annual re-enlisting of former SAPS members is a national initiative that encourages former members to apply for available posts like detective, crime intelligence and operational response among others.
Former members are given the opportunity to apply for ranks from Constable and Warrant Officer this year. Criteria has to be met and this includes having left the organisation not more than 10 years ago or alternatively have three to five years pensionable service that one can contribute if they are looking at re-enlisting.— Vish Naidoo, Saps spokesperson
With regards to the violent incidents where people have been followed home from OR Tambo International Airport, the recent being a Congolese couple, Naidoo says they have enhanced the capacity of teams to prevent attacks.
We have theories as to what is going on but the sad reality is that the police cannot be everywhere at the same time. We have formed relationships with ACSA (Airports Company SA), hotels and more importantly, the embassies to create awareness.— Vish Naidoo, Saps spokesperson
Naidoo said some of the things people need to be aware of is exposing valuables, exchanging large amounts of money and not using reputable transport services.
