A Fairways couple is claiming an Uber driver refused to drive them once he realised the Christian man was dating a Muslim woman.
They have lodged a complaint with Uber.
Kieno Kammies talks to Uber General Manager South Africa Coastal Regions, Jonathan Ayache about the incident.
Both drivers and riders deserve to feel safe, comfortable and respected when they are using the Uber app and we have community guidelines that are published.— Jonathan Ayache, Uber General Manager SA Coastal Regions
Ayache says the matter is being investigated, but cannot give details until this has been concluded and all sides have been heard.
When we heard about what happened, immediately, our incident response team which is equipped to deal with these issues, reached out to both the rider and the driver to investigate.— Jonathan Ayache, Uber General Manager SA Coastal Regions
He made it clear that discrimination of any kind by drivers will not be tolerated.
There are reasons like discrimination that will result in a driver or rider losing access to the Uber app.
