[LISTEN] Home Affairs says Ajay Gupta was never a SA citizen - Eusebius responds

Last week Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba confirmed that he gave Ajay Gupta and his family early citizenship and that the letters circulated by Julius Malema were “genuine“.

Today a statement released by Home Affairs confirms that Ajay Gupta is not a naturalised citizen of South Africa and that he only has a permanent residents permit.

The statement affirms that although the then Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba had granted him naturalisation rights, it was subject to him renouncing his Indian citizenship because India does not accept dual citizenship.

He did not renounce his Indian citizenship.

According to the statement, naturalisation was effected for his mother, his wife and their two sons. The family was granted naturalisation with the exception of Ajay Gupta because a family unit needs to be kept together, according to Home Affairs.
