Sapu orders intelligence boss to withdraw his decision or face legal action

The SA Police Union (Sapu) president Mpho Kwinika says the decision made by the new head of police intelligence Major-General Pat Makushane is 'illegal and irrational'.

The Police Union wants Makushane to withdraw directives that officers who work for his unit must leave the crim intelligence headquarters and go to other police stations within two days.

Under no circumstances did the minister say he should bypass the policies and the legislation that governs the issue of restructuring and deployment of officials.

He never said break the rules, but to follow the rules.

Kwinika says Makushane has used service delivery to get public sympathy and to create a perception that intelligence is non-existent at ground level. It's a lie.

He says intelligence officers are gathering information at all levels throughout South Africa.

You can never take people who have different security status to go and view a file of a person with a lower status. it is illegal in terms of the law that governs the issue of intelligence.
