The 'Social Media Blackout' campaign has been trending for most of Wednesday, despite calls for mobile users to boycott social media in an attempt to get South African network providers to reduce exorbitant data prices.
Social Media Strategist, Jodene Shaer says while it looks good on paper it is almost impossible for users to switch off social media.
It has become such an integral part of our lives, for some of us it is part of our work so we can't just take a day off, for others, it is a way to get around and stay connected. She agrees data costs are high and something needs to be done about it.
