In case you hadn't noticed, Cape Town feels freezing cold (and here's why)

The South African Weather Service says a cold front will make landfall in the early hours of Thursday morning in the south-western Cape spreading eastwards. Rainfall of 30 to 40mm in the mountainous areas is predicted.

SA Weather Service forecaster Thabisile Ntleko says there is a weather warning for high seas for Thursday.

High seas with wave heights 6 to 8m is expected between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay tomorrow morning (Thursday) spreading to Cape Columbine by afternoon subsiding Friday morning.

She notes there is a weather watch on Gale force westerly to north-westerly winds (65m/h) are expected between Cape Hangklip and Cape Agulhas tonight (Wednesday), but westerly to southwesterly between Cape Agulhas and Plettenberg tomorrow Thursday.

Strong winds can be expected along the southwest coast from tonight (50-65km/h) ahead of the cold front, spreading along the south coast to Plettenberg Bay by tomorrow morning

Rainfall prediction: Rain settles in early hours of tomorrow morning in the south-western parts, spreading to the west coast, and eastward to the south coast and adjacent interior as well as the interior of the Western Cape during the course of late morning into the afternoon. Rain should clear by the evening. Rainfall amounts ranging between 5-10mm, reaching 15-30mm in the south-western parts, particularly over the mountainous areas.

And finally...snow

Light dusting of snow is possible over the Cedeberg, Hexrivier, Hottentots mountain ranges tomorrow evening, but not expected to be disruptive. Cold conditions can be expected throughout the province.

The effects of the cold front in terms of rain, wind and snow are mainly for Thursday. Cold conditions can still be expected for Friday.

And Knysna, recently devastated by fires, is expecting some bad weather of its own.
