Two dogs allegedly jumped a fence, viciously attacked 3 year old and her grandpa

As reported in Eyewitness News, a man is in a critical condition after he and a three-year-old child were attacked by dogs in Athlone, Western Cape.

Family member Clifford Augustyn, told CapeTalk's John Maytham that the man attacked, who is the three-year-old's grandad, were alone at home when the incident occurred.

Augustyn admits that his account of events is based on what the neighbours relayed to him.

The grandfather went out of the house and into yard where the dogs were. I can assume that Emma went after him and followed him into the yard and was then attacked by the dogs.

Augustyn says both Emma and her grandfather suffered serious injuries but are fortunately in a stable condition in hospital. Having visited the premises where the incident took place on Tuesday, Augustyn believes they may have been a gap, possibly, granting the dogs access into their family yard.

A rottweiler and pit-bull are believed to be responsible for the vicious attack.

The dogs have been taken away.

Augustyn says the family is yet to take action as their priority right now is ensuring the full recovery of Emma and her grandfather.
