Volunteer JHB firefighters made 'huge difference' helping with #KnysnaFires

More than 75 volunteer firefighters from Johannesburg responded to the call for help with fire relief efforts in Knysna, it has emerged.

The Joburg firefighters made a huge difference, we were assigned the second most affected area in Knysna.

We brought everyone home safe.. we saved lives, some assets and people's houses. We evacuated over 150 people.

Two weeks ago, Diedrick Stopforth appealed to volunteers through Radio 702 and he says dozens of firefighters availed themselves to assist.

Stopforth says a data base of at least 250 firefighters from across the country has been created.

He thanked local airline Kulula for sponsoring 100 flight tickets to fly the volunteers to the affected area, SkyNet and other corporate donations.
