Will a wall quell tensions in Mahube, Tshwane?

On Thursday the Mayor of Tshwane Solly Msimanga made a comment that the best way to calm down the incidents of violence between home owners and people living in an informal settlement in Mahube, may be to build a wall between them.

Mandla Nkomo, MMC for Human Settlements in Tshwane says Ext 1 in Mahube was already a gated community and already had a wall erected in it. He explains that the wall was destroyed because of an invasion to access infrastructure, water and sanitation and connect electricity illegally.

Nkomo denies erecting the wall to protected the gated Mahube community.

The issue of the wall was not raised by us but by both communities.

Nkomo says a meeting was held where both communities were invited and it was agreed upon it is best to have a wall erected to avoid further conflicts.
