Mkhwebane met with stench of broken communal loos in Masiphumelele visit

Public Protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane visited Masiphumelele near Fish Hoek on Friday.

The purpose of her visit was to inspect the area, following complaints about the poor living conditions.

Monique Mortlock, EWN reporter, says the community and residents of the Masiphumelele area took the Public Protector on a walkabout of the area, showing her the extent of the of lack of resources and service delivery. Mortlock adds that there was an overpowering stench emanating from broken communal toilets and a sewage which runs through some homes.

Mortlock explains that this visit to Masiphumelele by Mkhwebane also forms part of the Public Protectors roadshow to various communities across the country.

Mkhwebane subpoenaed Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille and Western Cape Premier, Helen Zille to attend the Masiphumelele inspection but they apparently could not make it.
