British American Tobacco reduce water consumption by 54%

As water levels in the Western Cape continue to drop to a much concerning state, British American Tobacco has embarked on efforts to reduce their water consumption and reliance on municipal supply.

Head of external affairs at BAT, Joe Heshu says they've managed to reduce their water consumption by 54%. He says last year alone they were able to contribute to municipal reservoirs about 14 million litres of water by recycling and harvesting rain water.

In total we harvested about 1.3 million litres of water...

BAT shared their water saving techniques with business leaders and representatives of local government at a forum aimed to discuss the issue of water conservation in the region on Friday.

Heshu urged other businesses to come up with innovative ideas on how to conserve water and develop partnerships with municipalities in order to achieve that.

The innovation you have seen it is mainly at the heart of ourselves and the partnership that we have with the municipality.

We are very keen to continue with our investment in finding solutions and making sure that our water usage is sustainable and that we all are responsible to find solutions.
