MyCiTi routes are operational says City after bus torched in Joe Slovo

CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies talks to the City of Cape Town's Mayco member for transport Brett Herron.

Herron says one MyCiTi bus was torched completely and three others attacked on Sunday.

The violence was reportedly triggered because an illegal school was erected in the area and other service delivery grievances.

Two other buses were stoned. A fourth bus was petrol bombed but the fire was extinguished.

He says there are no reports of any drivers or passengers injured.

We suspended some of the operations late last night, but this morning all are operational as normal, except we have deviated some of the routes.

Trunk route 4 is slightly deviated from route and feeder route 261, where the bus was torched, has also been deviated. The Phoenix MyCiTi station is closed.
