Gigaba is postponing the inevitable - Brown

Political analyst Karima Brown says Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba is postponing the inevitable after he and Home Affairs Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize failed to attend a meeting to discuss the decision to grant the Gupta family citizenship.

Leaked documents show that Gigaba, when he was Home Affairs Minister, may have waived a certain legal requirement when he granted members of the Gupta family citizenship by naturalisation.

The DG trying to cover up for Minister Gigaba there saying that he did nothing wrong admitting, however, there was an oversight in not lodging the names with Parliament.

Karima Brown, Political analyst

The problem of course for Minister Gigaba is that he faces court action from the EFF and all those officials who are trying desperately behind the scenes and in front of Parliament to put distance between this, and Minister Gigaba is going to have to explain to the court when the EFF takes this matter there...

Karima Brown, Political analyst

One of the sticky issues is that Mr Ajay Gupta never renounced his citizenship from India which is a prerequisite if he were to be granted citizenship here.

Karima Brown, Political analyst

There are many unanswered questions and of course Minister Gigaba is just postponing the inevitable.
