[UPDATE] Ramokgopa says 60 Gauteng NGOs have been paid their subsidiaries

Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa says she has met with over 100 NGOs affected by a recent subsidy cut.

On Wednesday, The San Michele home, an NGO in Brakpan said it would approach the Southern Gauteng High Court a second time, after the department failed to fulfill its contractual agreement and pay out its subsidy.

The NGO says it was given only four days notice that its subsidy was being cut, despite having a 36-month agreement with the department.

149 of 299 NGOs that cater for mental health, HIV and TB patients did not receive funding for April and May.

Ramokgopa says she has met with the managers of the NGOs and says payments have been made to 60 of those organisations which have agreed to comply with the new licensing conditions.

We agreed that we must all work towards living within the licensing conditions , which were also raised as a risk by the health ombuds.

The second thing is that we agreed that only 60 NGO's were fully compliant and that for the rest we would be giving them conditional licenses.
