Apple hopes to launch its own self-driving car, but can they?

News on Thursday, that the technology firm Apple is now moving into the field of self-driving cars, and that it wants to get in on a very quickly moving market.

Earlier this month Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the iPhone-maker is building the technology to power self-driving cars.

While this is becoming a popular field, Stephen Grootes asks Stuff magazine editor-in-chief Toby Shapshak, how much catching up Apple may have to do and whether the world is any closer to having the technology.

Tesla is by far the leading proponents of this even though their cars are not autonomous, and then Waymo which is a unit of Alphabet, is developing self-driving cars and appears to be by far in the lead.

Toby Shapshak, Stuff magazine editor-in-chief
