Police called in to calm protests in Hout Bay

Western Cape Police spokesperson, Andre Traut says there is police presence in the Hout Bay area to ensure law and order.

This follows calls from concerned residents complaining about the lack of police presence in the area since violence protests flared up on Monday morning.

We have sufficient number of police to deal with the situation and maintain law and order.

This morning at about 4:20am the situation flared up and our members were notified and they are deployed in the area.

Councilor for Hout Bay, Rob Quintas, says the City has been deploying all resources to ensure progress in rebuilding the area.

He condemned the violent protests and the distruction to property. He says as soon as there is access to the area the Mayor will be making her way there to engage community leaders.

Quintas was meant to be in a meeting at the Mayor's office but he hasn't been able to leave the area due to barricaded roads.
