#ANCNPC delegates may push to have Derek Hanekom face disciplinary action

Delegates at the African National Congress's Policy Conference will continue a plenary session on Tuesday afternoon to test their strength over debates around radical economic change, monopoly capital and the expropriation of land.

There have been suggestions that the chair of the ANC’s Disciplinary Committee Derek Hanekom should face disciplinary action because he told delegates in the economic commission that their suggestions over land expropriation were rubbish.

Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says things are however going well and that Hanekom cannot be disciplined for disagreeing.

Delegates are engaging robustly and hard, and that is what the policy conference is all about.

Gwede Mantashe, ANC Secretary General

We don't drive a policy conference on the point of vengeance, we drive a policy conference on the basis of reaching out to each other and coming out more united. You cannot just be disciplining because you disagree. It does not work that way.

Eyewitness News reporter Clement Manyathela says the issue may be raised during the plenary.

Some of those delegates saying if Enoch Godongwana who was chairing that commission does not do something about these concerns by some delegates who are feeling disrespected, they will take this to the plenary.
