Imizamo Yethu residents not backing down from protests

For the fourth straight day frustration at the Imizamo Yethu housing situation has spilled over into public protests leading to road closures in and around Hout Bay.

On Monday, Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille visited the area, meeting with residents to forge a way forward.

Africa Melane, spoke with longtime Imizamo Yethu community worker, Kenny Tokwe to understand the frustration happening on the ground, despite the efforts the City claims it has made.

Tokwe says De Lille and all City officials have kept to their word and are working towards eliminating housing issues in the area. He adds that the frustration stems from failure to communicate contingency plans while rebuilding takes place.

The conditions they find themselves in while waiting are not very good.

Tokwe says the community of Imizamo Yethu was in support of the re-blocking services but is aggrieved by the lack of overall service delivery.
