[LISTEN] Zweli Mkhize says #ANCNPC not aimed at binding conclusions

The African National Congress (ANC) concluded its National Policy Conference on Wednesday.

Various proposals made on the subject of economic transformation, land expropriation without compensation amongst others, will be resolved at the party's national elective conference later this year.

ANC treasurer-general, Dr Zweli Mkhize has emphasized the purpose of the conference, saying it was simply to review policy and that its success should not be measured on whether or not a new blueprint has been adopted.

I think to expect there to have been conclusions that are binding in a policy conference is maybe not understanding the process because the only time those matters will be closed is at the December conference, so this is about debating new ideas, with new suggestions and indicating various options put on the table.

On the question of land, Mkhize said the ANC has agreed that the matter needs to be accelerated.

The question ultimately is, let's go and discuss, do a bit more analysis and research, so that when we get to December we know where the obstacles are and which of the two options is a practical option.

In his closing speech on Wednesday, President Jacob Zuma said the party's constitution can be amended to allow for two deputy presidents and that this would be in the interest of unity and stopping factions.

He said the approach of a winner takes all is not in the best interests of the party.

Mkhize says he has not yet applied his mind on the matter.

The president tabled it at the end of the conference and so we are willing to engage in the discussion... this is something we would have to engage in public.
