ANC's proposed child support age limit increase is a 'plug in the dike' -expert

The social transformation committee at the African National Congress National Policy Conference in Nasrec has proposed an increase in the age limit for child support grant recipients.

It resolved that branches should decide whether people be eligible for child support grants up to the age of 21 under the condition that they are enrolled at a tertiary institution.

Managing Director at Equality Works, Marleen Potgieter, says this is a 'plug in the dike' - an easy solution that is not sustainable.

Marleen Potgieter, MD at Equality Works

I suppose there as an immediate stop gap it is not a bad idea but as a long term initiative, I don't think it will work.
