Car washes urged to go water less due to drought

Executive Mayor Patricia de Lille's spokesperson, Zara Nicholson, says under water restrictions Level 4B all exemptions for car washes have been evoked.

Car washes are now expected to use alternative ways to wash cars rather than water, like dry steam or water less products.

We have been engaging with car washes for months now encouraging them to start using water less products.

Zara Nicholson, Executive Mayor Patricia de Lille's spokesperson

Nicholson says on Thursday they had a meeting with some of the informal car washes getting them to buy into the idea of using water less products for their businesses.

She says the Mayor made donations of products to these car washes to help kick-start water-efficient behaviour among them.

We don't want to hamper any economic activities but everybody needs to come to the party so the Mayor showed them some of the alternatives that are available.

Zara Nicholson, Executive Mayor Patricia de Lille's spokesperson

Changes are always difficult but that shift needs to happen now... If we run out of water there will be no water to run their businesses if we do not change.
