There's no shame: Women get real about going through menopause

Not enough ageing women talk openly about their experiences of menopause.

Clinical sexologist Dr Eve says there is a great deal of misinformation about menopause, which adds to the the stigma.

Menopause is when a woman stops having a period and begins to experience hormonal changes in her life transition.

43% of women are not going to a healthcare provide despite having these symptoms.

Dr Eve, clinical sexologist

It affects every woman differently; but symptoms include the following:

  • hair loss
  • itchy and dry skin
  • hot flushes
  • insomnia
  • irregular heartbeats
  • night sweats
  • aching joints
  • digestive problems
  • breast pain
  • frequent urination and urinary discomfort
  • anxiety
  • weight gain
  • irritability
  • vaginal dryness
  • change in sexual arousal

Research reveals that in 2025, there will be one and a half billion menopausal women across the world.

Dr Eve explains that menopause does not mean the end of a women's sex life and urged ageing woman to seek professional medical help.

She has also encouraged women to talk about how menopause has affected various aspects of their life, including their sexuality.
