GHD reaches agreement with mortuary workers, MEC apologises

Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa says the strike has resulted in a backlog of at least 150 bodies still in need of postmortems.

A strike by forensic pathology officers in Gauteng has officially come to an end.

The strike went on for three weeks and affected 10 mortuaries.

Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa says about 150 families are waiting for the postmortem results of their loved ones

State mortuaries in the province are however fully operational.

For Germiston we have backlog of 72, Joburg it was 58 yesterday and Roodepoort 20.

Within three working days, inclusive of today, these backlogs would have been dealt with.
