7 transport ministers later and taxi industry issues still unresolved - Santaco

On Sunday the transport ministry and the South African National Taxi council announced that the planned taxi strike planned for Wednesday has been cancelled for now after an agreement was signed over the financing of minibus taxis.

Ralph Jones, the Gauteng Regional Chairperson of the South African National Taxi Association (Santaco), says an agreement was reached to form committees to deal with issues such as operation licenses and subsidies.

Jones explains that government needs to devise a sustainable model that will assist with financing vehicles that will assist the taxi industry.

We contribute so much to the economy of the country and we need to be taken seriously as a public transport service provider and not just as a taxi industry.
