Fifth cease-fire agreement to quash violence in Syria

A peace deal was brokered by the United States and Russia along with Jordan at the G20 Summit in Hamburg last week Friday.

This agreement is the fifth of it's kind to quell the violence in Syria since early last year. Other cease-fires have quickly fallen apart, as was the case with a similar truce between the U.S. and Russia, and a deal between Turkey and Russia in December.

According to reports, the cease-fire seemed to be holding in southwestern Syria, after it took effect at noon on Sunday.

EWN correspondent, Paula Slier says the right sentiment is being expressed since the declaration of the cease fire.

Since the cease-fire was declared, there has been some sporadic incidents of violence but on the whole, it's holding.

Slier says a colleague of hers, based in the south western Syria, told her that locals are feeling some anxiety. Many questions have been raised about the cease-fire that appear effective on paper but don't detail how it will be carried it out practically, she adds

I don't mean to sound overly negative but a large part of Syria is still embroiled in a lot of violence.

Paula Slier, EWN correspondent

The situation in Syria was never really about just Syria but involved other world leaders that are involved in Syria.
