Acsa board member throws in the towel after Gupta tainting

Airports Company SA (Acsa) board member John Lamola has resigned.

Lamola sent a resignation letter to Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi explaining his reasons for quitting. He says he learned that the Guptas had allegedly played a role in his appointment.

The Guptas allegedly provided a list of five names to former transport minister Ben Martins' adviser in 2012, and Lamola's name was on that list.

Lamola does not admit to any wrong-doing.

DA Shadow Minister Of Transport Manny de Freitas talks to 702's Bongani Bingwa about the events that have unfolded.

I hope he is one of the good guys.

He resigned after being tainted by state capture and de Freitas says this is the sad part when some state-owned enterprises have been doing a good job.

I'm afraid it is like a cancer leaking into these entities that have until recently been running well and just keeps spreading its tentacles. And Acsa appears to be one of these.

He says he has written to the minister and certainly will be asking oral questions in Parliament.

The Transport Department was invited to come on air but referred 702 to Acsa who declined.
