Home Affairs to upgrade outdated tech to curb fraud, bribery and corruption

Home Affairs Minister, Hlengiwe Mkhize has shared plans to have her department operate under the country's security cluster.

In an attempt to curb fraud, bribery and corruption, Mkhize has highlighted challenges faced with out of date technology and records captured on defunct systems manned by a handful of technicians, and almost no professionals.

She spoke to Xolani Gwala about the improvements that need to be made.

We are talking about documents which ought to be offered in an orderly and secure manner. The security of these documents is critical.

Hlengiwe Mkhize, Minister of Home Affairs

Its to look at the use of technology in accessing and processing applications so we are more efficient, but also going back to accuracy and security aspects... We are looking at measures of ensuring that we take radical steps, to ensure that people apply the law very carefully and not corrupt the national population registrar.

Hlengiwe Mkhize, Minister of Home Affairs
