Ramaphosa: State capture looters must be brought to book and monies recovered

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the South African Communist Party's (SACP) National Congress in Boksburg on Wednesday.

EWN reporter Clement Manyathela says Ramaphosa was on fire and seemed in full campaign mode.

He spoke about Bell Pottinger asking why people that have used information provided by the Gupta family to sow division in the country.

He says he is disappointed and ashamed that there are some people even within the ANC that use the information that was provided by Bell Pottinger and even declaring that they are willing to die for that information.

Ramaphosa also spoke about state capture saying that money that was stolen through corruption and state capture needs to be recovered.

This is the first time he has publically called for the recovery of monies and for consequences.

Manyathela says Ramaphosa is emphasising that they need to ensure that there is accountability even at the top level in a way referring to some minister implicated in the Gupta leaks and Jacob Zuma's family, such as Duduzane Zuma.

Ramaphosa has urged the SACP to take a pause on the question whether they should stay within the alliance or leave and properly deliberate on the matter.

Manyathela says the congress has already taken a resolution that it will wait until the outcome of the ANC elective conference in December before it makes a decision at its special congress next year.
