Sars admits to spying on its employees' emails

The South African Revenue Service (Sars) is reportedly monitoring the emails of its employees in an attempt to find out if any of them are disclosing and leaking information to media outlets.

Murray Hunter, the National Coordinator of the Right2Know believes Sars is within their legal rights to carry out such a surveillance but says we should rather question whether they are right to do so or not.

If your employer has your consent to screen your emails then what they're doing is legal.

Murray Hunter, the National Coordinator of the Right2Know

But the question is, should they be doing this?

Hunter says by screening their employees email, Sars is creating a climate of paranoia.
