A 31-year-old suspect has appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates Court in connection with a child's stabbing.
The man is accused of stabbing a 12-year-old boy 33 times on Tuesday, reports EWN's Kevin Brandt.
The boy was playing soccer with friends on an open field in Goodwood when he was attacked and robbed of his cellphone.
The child's mother says she's traumatised and perplexed by the incident.
She's also concerned about the physical and psychological impact the attack has had on her son.
Brandt says the family wants to know why the young boy was apparently targeted, while the community remains on high alert.
The boy has undergone surgery to repair severed tendons in his hands.
Meanwhile, police are investigating the motive behind the stabbing.
