Former 947 host Gavin Singh dies

Popular Gauteng radio host Gavin Singh has died after he suffered a heart attack on Thursday.

The Hot 91.9 presenter made his 20-year mark in the radio industry this year as the host of the Hot Brunch.

Described as an instrumental figure on one of the first community radio stations in South Africa in 1995, Singh earned the 9am -12 midday slot on 94.7 Highveld Stereo in 1997 where he spent 9 years as prime time daytime presenter and producer.

His mid-morning show earned the second highest listener-ship ratings.

He also presented and produced 94.7’s exclusive local music slot “The Backyard” which showcased South African music talent.

Managing director at 91.9, Lloyd Madurai, released a statement on Friday morning.

Condolences and tributes have poured in from industry colleagues.

947 station manager, Ravi Naidoo, said the industry has lost a true radio professional.
